Inspector General Anthony P. D’Esposito: President Trump Takes Historic Action to Combat Foreign Labor Fraud

September 18, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General

WASHINGTON — U.S. Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony P. D’Esposito today said President Donald J. Trump’s executive action on foreign labor sends a clear message: fraud and abuse that harm American workers will face serious enforcement.

“President Trump is the greatest champion the American worker has ever had in the White House, and this historic action demonstrates his commitment to putting American workers first,” D’Esposito said. “Foreign labor fraud is not simply an administrative problem. When the evidence points to criminal conduct, we investigate crimes, build cases and work with prosecutors to put criminals in handcuffs.”

Working with Acting Secretary Keith Sonderling, federal law-enforcement partners, and alongside President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance’s White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, D’Esposito is investigating schemes involving foreign labor fraud, worker exploitation and potential human trafficking.

Investigators have already issued dozens of subpoenas and executed search warrants, while the Department has suspended visa applications from Cognizant and Cloudera pending this criminal investigation.

“The subpoenas are real. The search warrants are real. The investigations are real. President Trump’s action makes clear this fight is only intensifying,” D’Esposito said.

As a retired NYPD detective, D’Esposito said his investigators will exhaust every credible lead, pursue every legitimate tip and follow the money wherever it leads.

“Our mission is simple: protect American workers, root out fraud, combat exploitation and trafficking, and hold criminals accountable,” D’Esposito added. “No company is too powerful. No individual is untouchable.”

Anyone with information concerning foreign labor fraud, worker exploitation, or human trafficking associated with Department of Labor programs should contact the DOL OIG Hotline at 1-800-347-3756.
